Summer Athletics Information

18 05 2012

Hello  Upper School Tigers!

It’s time to get excited about our future!  We certainly don’t want our rivals to work harder in the off season than we do, so here is our revamped summer practice schedule:  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AruoymIS6zvudFFsUjlSWmNxNVA2QkQwbXVuaVRPeWc

The intention is to have the first month of practice focus on individual work and for August to be the month to build our teams!  Competitions will be scheduled based on attendance throughout the summer and will be scheduled during regular practice time or on Fridays with advance notice.  If you are serious about raising our status in the Prep League and beyond, you need to be willing to commit to improving your skills this summer!

FYI – The reason for the GoogleDoc is although we don’t foresee any changes, no doubt something will.  The GoogleDoc will allow you to reference the schedule weekly (in one place) for the most up-to-date information.  While I have cleared all days/times with the coaches we may find that our student-athletes have more conflicts than we had anticipated.  And, if the response is “off the charts” we’ll be adding more days/times!  When changes do occur an email will follow in addition to the document being updated.

Let’s get going, Tigers!!!

MS Flag Football Undefeated!

18 05 2012

From Coach Jason:

In the last Middle School Athletics event of the year our very own Flag Football Team comprised of only 7th graders managed to go undefeated in yesterday’s tournament. Led by quarterback Violet Smith the Tigers managed to beat the 8th grade Mayfield team 6 – 0 after Quincy Foster scored the Tigers’ Touchdown. The next two games saw incredible plays, especially on the defensive side of the ball. In the dying seconds Amari Gaiter pulled a Clairbourn flag to prevent a touchdown only 1 yard from the end zone giving us a tie. The defense was a wall and not one single touchdown was scored against our mighty Tigers during the entire tournament. Great work team!

Elements harsh in Boron

18 05 2012

The Tigers faced gale force winds with the thermometer soaring to nearly triple digits in the very arid town of Boron (east of Mojave if you haven’t been there).  After a lengthy bus ride the team wasn’t quite as sharp starting off  the game, but didn’t have too many errors either.  Boron quickly got on the board and the Tigers struggled to hit beyond the infield as the wind continued to accelerate.   A glimmer of hope came as Jackie Pai’s ’14 single moved Christine Ulin ’13 from third to home for the Tigers first run of the game!  At the end of the day the Tigers weren’t able to get another rally to come to fruition and ended 1-9.

Congratulations to Softball for a FANTASTIC season!!  Looking forward to many more CIF appearances in the years to come! A special “shout-out” to our seniors Brenda Soto and Kelly Habib — thank you for all your contributions!

PS  If you’re ever in the Antelope Valley try Guido’s in Rosamond — superb pizza!

Softball defeats Eastern Christian!

15 05 2012

OH MY!   The Tigers watched the Eagles score in the top of the first inning, but decided that would be enough!  Our batters found their rhythm and didn’t look back for the remainder of the game.  By the end of the 3rd inning, our superstars led 8-1!!  In a resounding victory, the Tigers will advance in CIF-SS Division 6 action after closing out the Eagles 16-1!  Jackie Pai ’14 had 10 strike-outs in the game!  Sydney Estrada ’14 hit 3 of 4 and had two doubles!!  It was truly an amazing team victory!!!

Next up, the Tigers travel to Boron on Thursday to compete against the Desert Mountain League’s #1 team!  Can’t wait to see our Tigers take on the Bobcats!

Go Softball!!!

Cassidy Medals at CIF-SS Division II Finals!

12 05 2012

With only three dives remaining in the CIF-SS Dive Finals the divers had a lot on the line.  Unlike previous dive competitions, the swimming finals were running simultaneously (major fans, major distractions) and the divers were expected to be ready to go with only a fragment of their usual competition (11 dives total).  Our Tiger SUPERSTAR Cassidy Golden ’13 remained calm as can be and through her efforts was able to capture the 8th place in the ENTIRE CIF-SS division!!!  Cassidy scored 393.95 points total for her 11 dives combined over the two day competition.  With many schools being six times (or more) the size of Westridge, that is quite an accomplishment!

Congratulations Cassidy on a truly amazing season!!  So happy you’ll be back next year ;-)

Lacrosse finishes the season strong

9 05 2012

Our SUPER lacrosse team fought a terrific battle in their final game of the season against Chadwick on Frank Field!  With seven seniors (and one honorary senior) on the roster, the Tigers may have been a bit emotional as they came out a little flat after the rose ceremony as they trailed 3-8 at the half.  But, our Tigers and their steadfast determination made it a game not to soon forget as they came out quickly and scored 3 goals on the Dolphins!  The Tigers continued to close-in, but the Dolphins continued to answer.  Westridge ended 12-16, but earned our utmost respect after a hard-fought battle!  High scorers for the day were Eda Reed ’12 with four goals and Sara Khan ’12 with three!!!  Both Lili Lim ’13 and Tatum Mannion ’14 added two each.

Congratulations on a great season!!!  And a special shout-out to all of our seniors in their final home game – Sarin Aladadi, Caitlin Emslie, Rebecca Felman, Sara Khan, Eda Reed, Nathalie Sami!  A special thanks to our sophomore, Tatum Mannion, who’s heading to Detriot.  And, to her SUPER mom, Pam, who was our volunteer assistant — we wish you the best on your new journey!
